Any person will consider their home as a valuable investment. As such, they will want to keep it in great shape for as long as they can. One of the most important components of any home is the siding as it enhances its beauty and durability. But just like any other part of your home, they need regular maintenance to stay in top condition. In today’s post, a local roofing contractor, Evergreen Renovations & Roofing, shares three ways to keep your siding looking fresh and new.

Perform Visual Inspections

To keep your siding looking its best, you have to conduct regular inspections to ensure that it looks the way it needs to be. Also, keep in mind that siding damage could cause underlying issues that can compromise other parts of your home which could damage your home’s structural integrity. Be sure to have a professional siding contractor come over to inspect your siding once or twice a year to ensure everything is in order. It’s better to spot issues early on than have costly repairs in the long run.

Choose the Right Paint

Not all siding materials are painted the same way. Vinyl and fiber cement siding, for instance, are treated with color before installation. They do not need to be repainted with another layer later on. However, if you decide to repaint your siding in the future, be sure to use the right paint material for the correct type of siding– top-grade latex paint for vinyl siding, quality acrylic paint for fiber cement siding. Consult your home exterior design contractor regarding the appropriate paint to use if you have other siding materials in mind.

Wash and Clean It Regularly

Regardless of your siding’s material, they all have to be cleaned of dirt, mildew, dust and other substances regularly. Aside from making them look clean, it rids them of damaging substances that can prolong their lifespan. For wood siding, you can clean it with warm, soapy water and rub it with a soft-bristle brush to remove dirt. Mildew can also be removed by adding bleach into the solution. For fiber cement siding, we advise using a high-pressure garden hose to remove grit and grime that’s lodged into the siding. For vinyl siding, you can remove dust and dirt by using a garden hose with adequate pressure.
